Jeremy Cohen
Jeremy is a creative and collaborative clinician with a practice wisdom that has developed over twenty-five years in clinical and public health roles working with individuals, kids and teens, couples and groups.
Jeremy is an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker with over twenty years' experience working for organisations such as the Australian Red Cross, Ballarat Regional Integrated Cancer Centre (BRICC), The Sydney Medically Supervised Injecting Centre (MSIC), Malmsbury Youth Justice Precinct and Sunshine Hospital.
His clinical approach is centred around non-judgemental rapport building and an outcome focus. He employs an eclectic methodology, utilising therapies best suited to the particular client through collaborative relationship.
Jeremy's work at the Red Cross and Sydney MSIC provided him with advanced skills in working with substance using clients (alcohol and other drugs). His employment as an Oncology Social Worker at BRICC, as well as a 500hr+ internship at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, provided advanced clinical experience with grief, loss and trauma in the context of illness and recovery. His work at Malmsbury Youth Justice Precinct provided skills to work with young male (including violent) offenders. At Sunshine Hospital’s Westside Lodge Jeremy worked with dual diagnosis clients managing complex mental health and drug and alcohol challenges.
Jeremy has had specialist training in advanced trauma clinical practice, rites of passage work for boys and fathers and NBT (No Bullshit Therapy) for clients who are suspicious or ambivalent about therapy.
Appointments
Jeremy consults from Yarraville and Footscray, located within inner Melbourne, Victoria. Clients can make an appointment to see Jeremy privately or with a referral from a GP or psychiatrist under the Better Access to Mental Health Care Medicare Scheme. Should you qualify for a referral from your GP or psychiatrist, this entitles you to a Medicare rebate on up to ten sessions per calendar year.
Please note that Jeremy is not currently providing court reports or provision of service to clients funded by Victims of Crime.
