Relationship Recovery Program
Break free from patterns that keep you stuck
Do you find yourself repeating the same relationship struggles despite your best intentions? Do past hurts continue to shape how you show up in intimate and family relationships? Are you ready to reclaim the capacity for real connection and intimacy?
The Relationship Recovery Program (RRP) is a specialised trauma therapy program utilises a group work model to help you finish unfinished business with your past and build the relationships you want.
Raising yourself in a traumatising, emotionally shut down/ oblivious or dangerous family causes the adult part of you and the inner child to become separated. RRP brings these two parts back together. The adult then learns to take charge, and the inner child finally gets a chance to be heard. This process takes place in a group, with other people doing the same.
Grieve the childhood you didn’t get. The family you were in, and the family you needed.
Finish business with your family. Face what actually happened at home and put the responsibility back where it belongs. The shame you’ve been carrying was never yours.
Reclaim intimacy. Build real connections with yourself, with a partner, and with the people around you. Not just by understanding it differently and carrying it out differently.
The program works with both 'Big T' trauma (significant abuse, violence, addiction, or neglect in childhood) and 'little t' trauma (families where emotions weren't tolerated, feelings were dismissed, or emotional needs went unmet).
You might wonder if your family was "really that bad" — you were fed, housed, clothed, had nice holidays. But what about feelings? Could your parents sit with your sadness when your dog died, or did they distract you with milkshakes, leaving you unsure how to process grief?
Whether the trauma was 'Big T' or 'little t', the presenting challenges are often similar:
Addiction and substance use issues
Intimacy, attachment, and relationship problems
Self-esteem deficits and negative core beliefs
Depression and anxiety
Reactivity to triggers — rapidly escalating emotions, or rapid emotional shutdown

Spaces in each RRP group are limited to ensure the quality and safety of the group experience. Information sessions will help you determine if RRP is the right fit for your healing journey.

Families are our first group, so group therapy is a natural way to heal family-related wounds. It creates insights, breakthroughs, and new relationship templates in ways individual therapy sometimes can't match. A footy team is a group, a workplace is a group — chances are you already have experience with group dynamics, even if you haven't named it that.
Think of it like a computer program: the work is to safely diagnose and replace 'glitchy', outdated emotional programs with ones that are fit for purpose. This happens through two goals:
Processing family-of-origin trauma — symptoms, beliefs, coping strategies, trauma responses, relational dysfunction, attachment problems, and sense of self
Relational work with fellow group members and the RRP facilitator, building new templates for secure, authentic connection

The Relationship Recovery Program is for adults who recognise that their relationship patterns aren't working and are committed to doing the deep personal work required for lasting change.
You might be:
Caught in cycles of conflict, distance, or disconnection in intimate relationships
Struggling with trust, vulnerability, or emotional availability
Repeating patterns from your family of origin despite your awareness
In a relationship that's struggling, or single and wanting to do the work before your next relationship
Ready to address how childhood experiences—whether obviously traumatic or subtly invalidating—continue to shape your adult relationships
Dealing with addiction, depression, anxiety, or self-esteem issues rooted in early experiences
-
If you were raised with loving and emotionally congruent parents who provided unconditional love and support, who could manage their emotions, conflict, and distress—you are the beneficiary of what's often called "the real riches." If, on the other hand, you were raised with violent, shut-down, addicted, narcissistic, or emotionally absent parents, the abuse and/or 'shadow' learning can be a real drag on your ability to manage adult relationships and happiness, regardless of how much money you or they had.
The good news? These patterns can be healed, these programs can be rewritten, and genuine intimacy and connection can be reclaimed.

RRP is based on the work of Amanda Curtin (Cambridge, Massachusetts), further developed by fellow social worker Patrick Teahan. This approach has helped people break free from destructive relationship patterns rooted in childhood and developmental trauma.
Jeremy has undertaken training modules with Patrick, and is currently doing long-term RRP therapist training with Marissa Boyce.
